ARC Review, Bred in the Bone, Widow's Island novella 4, Kendra Elliot

In the fourth Widow’s Island novella by Wall Street Journal bestselling author Kendra Elliot, the truth of a twenty-year disappearance will finally come to light.

When the town drunk ends up dead in a hit-and-run, FBI special agent Cate Wilde expects that solving the case will be cut and dried. But evidence quickly surfaces that the victim was involved with another crime. A crime that has gone cold for twenty years. A crime of personal importance to Cate.

Cate’s best friend, Samantha, went missing at fourteen, leaving behind nothing except a jacket and an island full of unanswered questions. Samantha’s disappearance has haunted Cate for more than half her life, and she might finally be able to find some closure.

But not everything is as it seems. As Cate unravels what happened on that fateful day, she’ll discover that the community of Widow’s Island is full of secrets. Betrayed by someone she thought she knew, Cate will need to piece together the truth…before someone else gets hurt.

Book 4 in the Widow's Island collection

Twenty years ago, Samantha Bishop disappeared without a trace. Her best friends Cate Wilde and Tessa Black, never forgot her and always vowed to discover the truth of her disappearance. In book 3, new evidence was uncovered that may have a bearing on the decades old mystery. But first Cate must solve a present day crime. Who hit and killed a bicyclist on a rural island road?

On leave after being shot during a routine investigation, Cate Wilde has come home to Widow's Island to recuperate. Since being home and reconnecting with her childhood friend Tessa, she is slowly getting her strength, and her courage, back. Helping with this is new to the island doctor Henry Powers, her new boyfriend and the island's coroner.

Being called to the scene of a hit and run is only one of the many unsettling things that have happened to Cate since being back home. Determined to uncover more clues to her friend Samantha's disappearance, she is side tracked by several murders, but one of them has lead to a promising clue. Can she and Tessa truly discover what happened to their friend all those years ago?

These two ladies continue to delight me with their writing. Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh, tag teaming this series, makes me so happy! The character development, spot on dialogue, and intriguing plots all combine to create stories that will grip the reader and leave you wanting more.
