My ARC review of A Merciful Promise, Book 6 in the Mercy Kilpatrick series by Kendra Elliot

I have been very fortunate to find authors who excel at their craft in all of the genres that I read. One of my favorites in romantic suspense is this author, Kendra Elliot. I have read all of her books, and each one I download or buy is like a Christmas present...pretty wrapping and a wonderful gift inside!

A Merciful Promise is the latest, and possibly the last, in the Mercy Kilpatrick series set in rural Oregon.  Each book has been an absolute pleasure to read, and this one is no different. To recap for anyone who has not read the first books, Mercy is an FBI special agent based in the bureau's Portland office. A case brings her back to the small town of Eagle's Nest where she was born and raised, the youngest daughter in a family of preppers- people who are prepared, at any moment, for the government to collapse and anarchy and chaos to take over the world. Mercy is involved with several high profile cases, and as she solves crimes she is also working at making amends with her family and trying to bridge the years that she was gone. She has fallen in love with the police chief of Eagle's Nest, Truman Daly and they are planning their wedding.

This story opens with Mercy being tapped to infiltrate a militia compound deep in the Oregon wilderness, a compound whose members follow their leader almost blindly. Rumors are heard that something big is about to go down, but no one knows what. Mercy is hesitant, but realizes she is the person best qualified to do the job. Cut off from the world, with no backup, can she determine the plan that is being hatched, stop it, and survive?

While Mercy is gone, strange things start happening near Eagle's Nest. Truman struggles to understand why bodies are appearing in the country around his town. Nude males, shot execution style, with no identification have been dumped. Working together with the county sherriff's department, Truman tries to put the pieces together.

I love these characters, and I love this series. Kendra Elliot has written another one that will go on my shelf!
